2012 in review…by WordPress.com :)

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog…..

Here’s the results:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 4,400 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 7 years to get that many views.

Rishikesh – Photo’s!

Since the internet connection has been pretty bad i haven’t been able to upload as many pix as i would have wanted – but i’ve moved to a different internet shop now, and the internet connection seems to be much much better here!
So here are some pix from yesterday’s day off – chilling our and relaxing in and around Lakshman Jhula 🙂

Getting ready for some Kriyas: Jala Neti, Sutra Neti and Vamana Dhauti!!!! Hence the worried look on everyone’s faces! 🙂

a bullfight began in the distance and slowly got closer and closer to us!

Rishikesh – Half Way!

Crazy but it’s true…we’ve already reached the half way point! Scary stuff…two weeks have just flown by! And it’s even scarier to think that the next two weeks will be even more intense and will pass even faster! Today we had a few tests – had to learn and teach a mantra to the rest of the class, teach a breathing technique to everyone else, and then give a 5min speech about a topic – it could be anything as long as it had to do with yoga.

Over the past few days i’ve been hard at work, learning this mantra, Patanjali’s mantra, an ode to him and it goes something like this:

Yogena Chittasya
Padena Wacham
Malam Charirasya Chaved Ya Kena
Yo Pakkaruttam
Pravaram Monenam
Patanjalim
Pranjali Ranatosmi

You gotta hear it being sung by Sunil (our Yoga Theory teacher), he’s got an amazing voice…i recorded it, so if i figure out how, i’ll put the voice recording on here 🙂

A few days ago i assisted my teacher during our 2hr Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga class, and then taught the beginners class…it went well, i hope! We are taking it in turns teaching the beginners class…so i had to prepare my class plan, prepare my 5min speech on the Patanjali’s 8 limbs of yoga: the yamas, the nyamas, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dhyana, dharana, and samadhi…and as breathing technique i demonstrated Uddiayna Bhand.

Another great highlight was touching my head with my toes in scorpion – of course i was being helped/held by my teacher, Kamal Singh. I’m also practicing jumping in downward dog and landing with my legs straight between my hands…oh and another first! It was definitely the week for firsts i must say, i was able to sit thru a whole meditation class – 30mins – without moving my legs ONCE! Pretty amazing stuff! 😉

Tomorrow morning we are waking up at 7.30am – i get 2hrs extra sleep – to meet at 8.30am so that we can do some Kryas…Jala Neti, and 2 others…i can’t remember their names, i just know that one involves vomiting! After all this lovely stuff, Miyuki and I will go shopping in Lakshman Jhula – we’ll go hang out, check out shops, buy some souvenirs and Xmas gifts for family and friends back home, and eat some vegeterian sushi and miso soup! YUMMY!

Anyhoo, it’s 9.35pm and i need to get some beauty sleep since i’m not getting much of that here!

Namaste ,Om Shanti Shanti Shanti _/|\_

* i wanted to upload some more pix, but i’m having issues with the upload! I’ll try again next time x

Rishikesh – 8.9.10 & 11

Catching up on the last few days….Day 8 new girl joined our TTC – Maricha, or Maricha, i’m not quite sure how that’s spelt, but she’s from Paris, France. We also practiced jumping forward in downward dog – i really want to be able to jump thru with control…against the wall i can now jump, hover a little in the air, and then come up in handstand, but only with the wall behind me for now…gotta get rid of that wall! By practicing the exercises given to us by Kamal to strengthen the arms and shoulders, i’m sure that by the end of the TTC we’ll be able to do much more than when we started! (i hope!)…gotta keep practicing with AWARENESS, FOCUS & DETERMINATION!

Day 9 was a Saturday, and hence the last day of week that we had to wake up at 5.30am! We have Sunday off you see 🙂 trying to breathe longer, instead of 5breaths, trying to do 10, but having to add in more full vinyasas to keep my temp up. Adjustments that we’re learning are awesome, i mean you really put your whole body into it – in Kamal’s case, even his head! Tried walking meditation for the first time in my life – walking with awareness…it was tiring and confusing at first, but then i got the hang of it…at the end the soles of my feet were tingling, they were fully active and alive!!! On Saturday i was also given my teaching date: i will be teaching the beginner’s lunch class on Thursday! Yikes! So prepped my lesson plan – better be ready for it!

On Sunday, Day 10 – we had our silent walk up to a temple – i forgot the name now – took about 3-4hrs, more like 4 actually, we headed out at 8.30am and walked uphill for most of it – there were monkeys – so cute! I uploaded a pic yesterday…i’ll add a couple more today. After reaching the top, we had lunch, India Thali which is lovley – a dish made up of different things, so there’s rice and chappati in the middle, and all around different things you can eat the rice with. To come down, some of us walked, but some of us took a taxi to Lakshman Jhula to go shopping! And that’s what i did 😉 got myself a few little things, i def need to go back! Lakshman Jhula is way more touristy, it’s got lots of little terrace cafe’s overlooking the ganga, really feels like Kaosarn road, well how it used to be before it became so modern. For dinner we had vegeterian sushi! and miso soup – YUM! I mustn’t forget to tell you that whilst in Lakshman Jhula we visited the Yogananda Kriya Yoga Ashram – we went for the Arthi, but left before the meditation started – the whole thing lasts from 6.30-8.30pm – Miyuki & i have decided to go back this Sunday for the whole thing!

And this brings us to Yesterday, Day 11 – which also happened to be a New Moon Day – so we had no Pranayama, no Mysore, no Lecture, only Yoga Nidra and Adjustments as well as practicing teaching the sequence. I taught my lesson plan to Yui and Miyuki – i made some tweaks and now i gotta go thru it again, teach it one more time to make sure it’s all ok…and the times work. I had a weird dream too – that i was marrying Prince Harry, but at the end it turned out he was gay! Had lunch at Tip Top with Miyuki – i had Islraeli food, falafel with hummous, salad & chips! Which i never eat, but tasted sooooo good! 😛

So we are now up to date! Today i’m feeling extremely tired…i’m taking it easy, and will make sure to go to bed before 11, like at 10pm…it’s all catching up with me, my body is feeling it…getting really tired now. I’ll be off to Yoga Nidra now…but before i go, here’s a few more snaps i took in Lakshman Jhula:

Sunset whilst crossing the bridge, Lakshman Jhula.
Shop window in Lakshman Jhula.
